I-271 Northbound Project

Road Closure Notice

2025 1-271 ODOT PROJECT RELEASE

Pepper Pike Mayor Bain and Lyndhurst Mayor Ward, along with Pepper Pike's City Engineer, Police and Fire Chiefs, have been working closely with ODOT District 12 to help alleviate congestion and safety concerns on the northbound I-271 exit at Cedar Road. This exit frequently backs up, creating safety issues during the morning and evening rush-hours, requiring significant support from our safety forces and those from neighboring communities, particularly Lyndhurst and Beachwood.

Our local ODOT officials listened to our concerns. They were able to develop a plan and find the funding to enhance the safety of this busy exit ramp. They have also studied the phenomenon of vehicles cutting across the local lanes from the express lanes to exit at Cedar Road, often while other cars are already stopped for queuing at the exit ramp. This dangerous situation will be addressed by the work ODOT will be performing during the 2025 construction season.

Work will be commencing in the coming weeks, so please take note of information signs that will provide notice of changes in traffic and access to the express and local lanes. ODOT and the contractor have worked closely together to develop a plan that will allow for a safe and expedited construction schedule, taking what would normally be a two-year project and completing the construction by October 15th of this year. Work activities will be constant, and the improvements to the Cedar Road exit ramp, along with changes to the express lane exits, will be performed to include resurfacing of the entire roadway.
